10 Tips to a Better Diet

  1. Take time to enjoy meals. Never eat on the run.

  2. Chew your food well for best digestion.

  3. Drink at least six glasses of pure, good-quality water per day, ideally not with meals for best digestion.

  4. Eat a wholesome breakfast and hearty lunch, and then a lighter evening meal if you can.

  5. Don’t overeat or eat much after nightfall (definitely not two to three hours before bedtime).

  6. Avoid excessive fried foods, salt, sugar, refined foods, and synthetic chemicals and additives in your diet.

  7. Plan to correct unhealthy habits—caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and sugar—after the holidays. Get away from their daily use to see how you will feel.

  8. Take easy walks after meals if possible, and get enough exercise to utilize the nutrients and calories you consume.

  9. Eat a balanced diet, focusing on vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and fresh fruits. Add a few nuts or seeds along with some dairy products and animal foods, predominantly fresh seafood. That way, you’ll consume a greater percentage of high-fiber, carbohydrate foods and a lower amount of animal fats and proteins.

  10. Take a multivitamin/mineral supplement as indicated for your age and gender, along with extra vitamin C and other antioxidants with meals, as well as other supplements individualized to your needs. Discuss any supplements you take with your healthcare provider.
