“Mild” Control of Blood Pressure Advised

By Alan Siddal
Blood pressure

If you’re an older adult using medications to bring down moderately high blood pressure, you might be able to reconsider the treatment. New research suggests that keeping the systolic, or higher, reading at 150 or less may be adequate for people older than 60. An acceptable reading has usually been advised as 140 or less.

“There’s clearly a value to controlling blood pressure,” said Oregon State University researcher David Lee. “Keeping blood pressure within acceptable levels will lower death rates. But as people get older, there’s less clear evidence that stringent control of systolic blood pressure is as important.”

You’ll find safe and effective tips for controlling blood pressure from internal medicine expert Jacob Teitelbaum, MD.

Be sure to talk to your healthcare practitioner before making any changes to your routine.
