Eat to Improve Vision

By The Taste for Life Staff

Maintaining healthy vision can be as easy (and tasty) as improving your diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends adding these nutrient-rich foods to your menu to help protect your eyes and reduce your risk of age-related conditions.

  • Kale and other leafy greens can offer protection against sunlight damage, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
  • Sweet potatoes, an excellent source of beta carotene, may lower the risk of macular degeneration.
  • Strawberries and other vitamin C-rich fruits may protect against cataracts.
  • Salmon and other fatty fish, loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, can soothe dry eyes and reduce the risk of macular degeneration.
  • Antioxidant-laden green tea appears to protect against macular degeneration and cataracts.
