Menopause: Steadying Yourself Through a Season of Change
Take a pause
Across the country, women are speaking more openly about menopause, and the honesty is overdue.
This transition touches everything. Our sleep changes and mood shifts. The worst is when heat shows up out of nowhere. Then we struggle with drifting focus.
Stress hits harder while our confidence can disappear. It is a real-life recalibration, and it can feel unpredictable.
Here’s the thing you need to hear. Your body is responding to change, not giving up on you.
Your Brain on Menopause
Menopause affects the brain systems that govern stress and recovery. This is why overwhelm can rise quickly and why calm may take longer to return.
Mindfulness helps you stay centered while internal patterns shift. It strengthens the nervous system so you can respond with clarity instead of bracing through every moment.
Many women I coach in my Mindful Menopause program use the following simple practice to regain their footing during the day.
The Cooling Point Check
This practice is intended to be used the moment you feel your body shift. Maybe heat rises. Maybe your patience thins. Maybe you feel pressure building under the surface. Whatever shows up, catch it as it is happening. Pause for 10 seconds. This brief stop interrupts the momentum of discomfort.
Place one hand lightly on your upper chest or collarbone. This brings your attention into your body and anchors you in the present moment.
Adjust one thing in your environment right away. Open a window. Step into cooler air. Take off the sweater. Shift how you are sitting or standing. Take a sip of water. Lower your shoulders. Small changes often help the body settle quickly.
End with a grounding line said quietly to yourself. I can steady myself here. This gives you your power back in real time.
That is the entire practice. Simple, direct, doable anywhere.
Navigating March
March is a transitional month. Winter loosens its grip and spring shows up a little at a time. Menopause follows a similar pattern. With presence, small adjustments, and a willingness to listen to your body’s cues, this season can become a time of strength and clarity rather than confusion.
If this transition feels unfamiliar or overwhelming, Mindful Menopause coaching offers tools, structure, and support so you do not have to navigate it alone.
