Eating blueberries and strawberries can delay memory decline in older women by more than two years, according to an ongoing study of more than 16,000 female nurses over the age of 70. “Among women who consumed two or more servings of strawberries and blueberries each week we saw a modest reduction in memory decline,” said researcher Elizabeth Devore. “This effect appears to be attainable with relatively simple dietary modifications.”
The team used data from the Nurses’ Health Study, a cohort of more than 120,000 female nurses who were ages 30 to 55 when the study began in 1976. Participants are surveyed every four years.
